Deck Repair & Restoration

Not every deck needs to come down

As a deck repair contractor working across the Denver and Colorado Springs areas, we've found Colorado weather is hard on decks, and a tired one doesn't always mean a full rebuild. Plenty of the decks we look at have a sound substructure under a worn-out surface — and in those cases, repair, renovation, or re-decking saves you thousands over a teardown. The first job is figuring out honestly which situation you're in, and that's where we start.

A real structural inspection first

Before we quote a dollar of work, we inspect the deck the way an engineer would. We check the ledger connection to the house — the single most common cause of catastrophic deck collapses — along with footings, post bases, joist hangers, fasteners, and the framing for rot, rust, and movement. You get a straight, written report on what's safe, what's worn, and what's actually dangerous. If the bones are good, we'll tell you. If they're not, we'll tell you that too, even when it's not the answer you were hoping for.

Repair and re-decking

When the structure is sound, the most cost-effective upgrade is often re-decking: we strip the old surface and railings and install new composite or wood boards over the existing framing, reusing the foundation you already paid for. We also handle targeted repairs — replacing rotted joists or boards, re-securing or upgrading the ledger, swapping failed fasteners for proper hardware, and rebuilding stairs and railings to current code. The result is a deck that looks and performs like new for a fraction of a full rebuild.

Honest rebuilds when that's the right call

Sometimes the inspection turns up problems that repair can't responsibly fix — undersized footings heaved by frost, a ledger that was never flashed and has rotted the rim joist, or framing that was built below code from the start. When that's the case, we'll show you the evidence and explain why a rebuild is the safer, smarter money. We won't lipstick a deck that needs to come down, because our name goes on the work and your family stands on it. When a rebuild is warranted, we design and build the replacement to current Colorado code, fully permitted and inspected.

Restoring the surface

If your deck is structurally fine and just looks weathered, we also offer surface restoration — cleaning, re-oiling or re-sealing natural wood, replacing the occasional split board, and refreshing railings and lighting. It's the lowest-cost way to get years more life and curb appeal out of a deck that's fundamentally healthy.

Questions

Deck Repair & Restoration: what homeowners ask us.

How do I know if my deck needs repair or full replacement?

A real structural inspection — that's where we start, before quoting a dollar. We check the ledger connection to the house (the single most common cause of catastrophic deck collapses), footings, post bases, joist hangers, fasteners, and framing, then give you a straight written report on what's safe, what's worn, and what's actually dangerous. If the bones are good, we'll tell you.

What is re-decking?

Keeping the sound structure you already paid for and replacing everything you see. We strip the old boards and railings and install a new composite or wood surface over the existing framing — the new-deck look and most of the longevity, for thousands less than a teardown. We only recommend it when the substructure genuinely deserves it.

Is a wobbly or weathered deck dangerous?

Sometimes. Weathered boards are usually cosmetic, but wobble, a rotted or unflashed ledger, frost-heaved footings, and rusted hardware can be structural — and the ledger connection is where most serious deck failures start, which is exactly why our inspection starts there. Send us a few photos and we'll give you a straight answer.

My deck is structurally fine but looks tired — what are my options?
