A plains town east of Brighton
Hudson sits on I-76 east of Brighton at about 5,020 feet, a town of roughly 1,700 on open plains. The core is a compact early-1900s grid in Old Town; around it are 1970s–2000s ranches and a growing number of 2010s–2020s subdivisions — Hudson Hills, Box Elder Creek Ranch — plus rural acreages where the deck is often the best room on the property. Nothing breaks the wind out here, and nothing shades a south-facing yard.
Permits through the Town Clerk, reviewed by ProCode
The Town of Hudson issues building permits through the Town Clerk at 50 South Beech Street, after ProCode — the town's contracted Chief Building Official — reviews the plans. ProCode also performs the inspections, scheduled through the Community Core portal. The town currently enforces the 2018 ICC codes with 2024 fire-code amendments and has been moving to the 2024 I-Codes, so we draw to the newer edition to stay ahead of the change. Anything touching the right-of-way needs a separate ROW permit. Acreage outside town limits files with Weld County, and we confirm the jurisdiction from your parcel first.
Wind first, then frost
Hudson publishes no design criteria of its own, so the regional Weld County values apply: 30 psf ground snow, 115 mph three-second-gust wind, and a 30-inch frost depth. On these plains, wind is the structural number. A pergola or patio cover is engineered for uplift, with roof connectors and post bases sized to hold in a spring gale rather than picked from a catalog. Footings are drilled below frost into clay that heaves a shallow pad every year.
Hail and sun decide the surface. Weld County is hail country, and a south-facing deck at this elevation takes UV that fails a wood finish in two seasons. Capped composite takes both and asks for a hose instead of a stain.
What we build in Hudson
On the acreages and in Hudson Hills and Box Elder Creek Ranch, the typical project is a 300–400 square foot composite deck or larger with a solid cover so it is usable in July heat and a March wind, designed as one structure. Slim aluminum railing keeps the long view these lots have. On the grid, the work is fitting a useful deck inside a small setback and matching the scale of an older house. We price the cover as its own line so you can see exactly what the shade costs. We are a Trex, TimberTech, and Deckorators dealer.
Repair or replace
Hudson has plenty of decks built decades ago to a lighter standard. We inspect the ledger, posts, footings, and hardware before quoting. Sound framing gets a re-deck at $20–$35 per square foot; a failed ledger or footings above frost get a replacement plan built to current code. The findings go to you in writing, with photos.
Fifty minutes out I-76
Hudson is about fifty minutes from our Centennial shop, out I-76 past Brighton. We pair it with Keenesburg and Fort Lupton work so a crew is nearby for consecutive days rather than commuting for half-days.
