The close-in suburb, with close-in constraints
Englewood is one of the metro's original streetcar-era suburbs, and its housing shows it: compact lots, a lot of post-war brick ranches and bungalows, detached garages off alleys, and neighbors close enough to wave at from the back step. That geometry changes what a good deck looks like. Sprawling multi-level layouts that suit a Parker walk-out would swallow an Englewood backyard whole. What works here is precision — a deck sized so there's still yard left, built-in seating that saves the square footage furniture would eat, and privacy handled by design rather than by fence height.
We build a lot of small, exacting projects in this part of the metro, and they're some of the most satisfying work we do. There's nowhere to hide a sloppy line on a deck you can see the whole of from one chair.
Our mail says Englewood too
Here's the wrinkle worth knowing before you pull a permit: postal Englewood is much bigger than the City of Englewood. The 80112 and 80111 ZIPs run east across the Denver Tech Center, so a great many homes and businesses with an Englewood address sit in Centennial, Greenwood Village, or unincorporated Arapahoe County for permitting purposes. Our own shop off Easter Lane is a textbook case — Englewood mail, Centennial jurisdiction.
It matters because those counters have different submittal requirements, different review timelines, and no shared paperwork. We confirm whose jurisdiction your address is actually in, produce the drawings to that counter's standard, pull the permit, and manage the inspections. You never have to work out which city you technically live in.
Shade, privacy, and west-facing afternoons
The two requests we hear most in Englewood are shade and privacy, and they're usually the same problem. Lots run tight, west exposures bake from mid-afternoon on, and a bare patio slab goes unused all summer for both reasons at once. A pergola or patio cover solves the sun; slat screens and thoughtful railing choices — cable or aluminum instead of a solid wall — buy privacy without turning the yard into a box. We've built a lot of these combinations just up the road, and they're what turn an unused slab into the part of the house people actually sit in.
Repairs, replacements, and honest answers
A lot of Englewood's decks are older than the homeowners who inherited them, and by Colorado standards that means checking the structure before anything else. We inspect the ledger, footings, and framing the way an engineer would and tell you straight whether you're looking at a repair, a re-deck over sound framing, or a full replacement in capped composite. Sometimes the answer saves you money; either way you get it in writing, and everything we build is covered by our written guarantee.
Ten minutes away, and staying that way
From our shop we're barely ten minutes from most of Englewood — close enough for a free on-site consultation this week, close enough to swing by mid-build, and close enough that coming back years later is never an imposition. Budgeting first? Start with the Denver-area composite deck cost guide, then tell us what you're picturing and we'll come look at the yard.
