Cook, serve, and stay outside

The decks that get used the most are the ones where nobody has to keep running back to the indoor kitchen. An outdoor kitchen or built-in bar turns your deck into the place everyone gathers — and across the Denver and Colorado Springs areas, it's one of the upgrades homeowners tell us they'd do again first. Haka Decks designs and builds outdoor kitchens directly into the deck structure, so the result looks intentional and lasts, instead of a freestanding grill cart crowding the corner.

Engineered into the deck, not bolted on

The difference between an outdoor kitchen that lasts and one that sags in two years is structural. Stone counters, built-in grills, and refrigeration are heavy, so we frame for those loads from the footings up and isolate heat sources with proper clearances and non-combustible materials. Gas grills and side burners need correct ventilation; we build it in. The countertop overhangs, the appliance cutouts, and the access doors are all detailed during design, not improvised on site — which is why our outdoor kitchens read as a finished part of the deck rather than an afterthought.

Gas, power, and freeze-tolerant plumbing

A real outdoor kitchen needs real utilities. We run dedicated gas lines for grills and burners, 220V electrical for refrigerators, ice makers, and warming drawers, and standard circuits for lighting and outlets. Plumbing is where Colorado catches people out: a sink or ice maker that isn't designed to drain and shut off for winter will freeze and crack. We install freeze-tolerant supply and drainage with proper shutoffs so you can winterize the kitchen in minutes and trust it'll come back to life in spring.

Countertops, bars, and the finish

This is the fun part. We finish counters in natural stone, porcelain tile, or weatherproof composite, and we design bar-height seating right into the layout so guests can sit and talk to whoever's cooking. Add a kegerator, a beverage fridge, storage drawers, and task lighting, and the deck becomes a genuine entertaining space. We'll match the materials and tone to the rest of the deck and the house so the whole thing feels like one project, because it is.

Designed around how you entertain

Every build starts with how you actually host. Do you grill for a crowd or cook for two? Do you want the cook facing the guests or the view? Where does the prep happen, and where do people set their drinks down? We design the kitchen around those answers, handle the permits and any required inspections for the gas and electrical work, and build it in alongside the deck so the timelines line up.

Thinking about adding a kitchen or bar to a new or existing deck? Tell us how you like to entertain and we'll design around it.

Questions

Outdoor Kitchens & Bars: what homeowners ask us.

Can a deck support an outdoor kitchen?

Yes — when it's framed for one. Stone counters, built-in grills, and refrigeration are heavy, so we design for those loads from the footings up and isolate heat sources with proper clearances and non-combustible materials. That structural planning is the difference between an outdoor kitchen that lasts and one that sags in two years.

What happens to outdoor kitchen plumbing in a Colorado winter?

Handled properly, nothing. A sink or ice maker that isn't designed to drain and shut off for winter will freeze and crack — so we install freeze-tolerant supply and drainage with proper shutoffs. You can winterize the kitchen in minutes and trust it'll come back to life in spring.

What utilities does an outdoor kitchen need?

A real one needs real utilities: dedicated gas lines for grills and side burners with correct ventilation built in, 220V electrical for refrigerators, ice makers, and warming drawers, standard circuits for lighting and outlets, and freeze-tolerant plumbing if you want a sink. We run all of it during the build and handle the required permits and inspections for the gas and electrical work.

Can you add an outdoor kitchen to an existing deck?

Often, yes — it depends on whether the existing structure can take the loads. We assess the framing, reinforce where needed, and detail the kitchen during design rather than improvising on site, so the result reads as a finished part of the deck instead of an afterthought.

Peter was great to work with. He really listened to what I needed and came up with a custom plan for our deck. I would highly recommend working with Haka!
