Custom Deck Builder in Morrison, Colorado

Morrison is a tiny historic town wrapped in foothills — most Morrison addresses are actually unincorporated Jefferson County, and knowing which side of that line you are on is where a deck project here starts.

  • Town of Morrison or Jeffco permits — we determine which applies
  • Foothill and hogback lots engineered for slope and exposure
  • Composite aligned with the new Jeffco WUI code where mapped
  • Thirty minutes from our Centennial shop

Two Morrisons, one zip code

The Town of Morrison is a few blocks of 1870s buildings at the mouth of Bear Creek Canyon, around 5,765 feet. Nearly everything else that carries a Morrison address — the custom homes around Red Rocks Country Club in Willow Springs, Willowbrook, and Lyons Ridge; the starter homes of Friendly Hills and Harriman Park; the cabins up in Hilldale Pines — is unincorporated Jefferson County, climbing into foothills that reach about 7,500 feet.

That split is not trivia. It decides who permits your deck, what code applies, and increasingly what your deck surface is allowed to be made of.

Permits: town counter or county counter

Inside town limits, the Town of Morrison Building Department is your counter, and decks are explicitly permit-required. Everywhere else, it is Jeffco Building Safety. We confirm jurisdiction from your parcel before drawing a line — it is a five-minute check that prevents a five-week mistake — then prepare the packet, file it, and manage inspections through final. Our permit guide covers the wider process.

The wildfire code, plainly

Jefferson County's Wildfire Resiliency Code took effect July 1, 2026. In mapped WUI zones of unincorporated Jeffco, new and replacement deck surfaces must be noncombustible, with ignition-limiting framing underneath. Whether it applies to you is parcel-specific — but Morrison's foothill neighborhoods are exactly the terrain the mapping targets, so we check with the county at the start of every project here. On mapped lots, capped composite is now the code-aligned way to build, not just our preference.

Hogback terrain earns its engineering

Red-rock and hogback ground makes for spectacular decks and honest structural work: sloped lots want taller posts, engineered footings, and stair runs that work with the grade. West-facing foothill exposure also means real sun and real weather — which is where a covered section or pergola engineered for wind and snow load earns its keep. The covered deck cost guide has honest numbers on what that adds.

Composite first, for Morrison reasons

Altitude UV fades and checks wood finishes fast, freeze-thaw works fasteners loose every winter, and hail is a summer certainty. Composite handles all three with near-zero upkeep, and modern railing systems match its lifespan. If you are weighing the alternatives honestly, our composite vs. hardwood comparison lays out both sides.

Repair when true, replacement when honest

Morrison's decks are as varied as its housing — some are ten years old, some are original to 1970s homes. We inspect the frame first: sound structure gets a repair, aged-out structure gets a plain answer and a replacement plan. No drama either way.

Thirty minutes from the shop

From Centennial, Morrison is about thirty minutes up C-470 — the same corridor as our Lakewood and Golden work. Distance shapes our scheduling, not your price or the guarantee.

Questions

Deck questions Morrison homeowners ask.

Who issues deck permits in Morrison?

It depends on which Morrison you are in, and most people guess wrong. The Town of Morrison Building Department covers permits only inside the small town limits, where decks are explicitly permit-required. But most addresses that say Morrison, CO — Willow Springs, Willowbrook, Friendly Hills, Harriman Park, Hilldale Pines — are unincorporated Jefferson County, and Jeffco Building Safety is the counter. We confirm your jurisdiction from the parcel before anything gets drawn, then prepare and file the right packet.

What does a deck cost in Morrison?

Capped composite runs about $40–$70 per square foot installed, which puts a typical 300–400 square foot deck around $15,000–$30,000 with railing and stairs. Sloped foothill lots west of town can add structural cost — taller posts, engineered footings, more stairs — and a covered section adds its own line. Our calculator gives you a planning range in thirty seconds.

Does the new Jefferson County wildfire code apply to my Morrison address?

Possibly, and it is worth checking before you plan anything. Jefferson County's Wildfire Resiliency Code took effect July 1, 2026: in mapped WUI zones of unincorporated Jeffco, new and replacement deck surfaces must be noncombustible, with ignition-limiting framing details. Since most Morrison-addressed homes are in unincorporated Jeffco, and the foothill neighborhoods west of town are the likeliest to be mapped, we confirm your parcel with the county first. On mapped lots, capped composite is now the code-aligned choice, not just the low-maintenance one.

My deck is older than my kids — repair or replace?

We inspect the framing and give you a straight answer. Morrison housing runs from 1870s town buildings to 1970s starter homes in Friendly Hills to newer customs near Red Rocks Country Club, and the decks span the same decades. Where the structure is sound, a repair or resurface is honest money. Where the framing, ledger, or hardware has aged out, we say so — resurfacing a failing frame just puts good boards on a bad bet.

We took several bids but Pete the owner stuck out the best — not from a pricing standpoint but just overall as a person. He gave us many options to think about.
